Maintaining Proper Chlorine

Keeping chlorine at proper levels helps your water stay clear and clean, controls algae growth, and protects your swimmers from harmful bacteria. Use Clorox Pool&Spa My Pool Care Assistant Multi-Use Smart Strip to test your chlorine levels weekly, and ensure your water's pH levels are balanced. - Free Chlorine: 1 to 4 ppm*. - Total Chlorine: 1 to 4 ppm. - pH: 7.2 to 7.6. On warmer days, you may want to test water more frequently, and adjust how much chlorine you add to the pool to ensure your levels are between 1 and 4 ppm. *ppm: parts-per-million.	Shocking helps you maintain chlorine levels by destroying bacteria and swimmer contaminants that will increase demand for chlorine in your pool, and making it harder for your pool to maintain free chlorine of 1 to 4 parts-per-million, and causing your water to get cloudy or smelly. Shock weekly with Clorox Pool&Spa Shock XtraBlue to help free up more available chlorine in your pool. Shock XtraBlue dissolves fast without raising pH levels, and you can swim 15 minutes after treating when chlorine levels are between 1 to 4 parts-per-million.	Chlorine quickly depletes when exposed to the sun's ultraviolet rays, and needs to be protected from the sun in order to last longer. Cyanuric acid, also known as chlorine stabilizer, will stabilize chlorine under the sunlight's rays, ensuring longer lasting sanitization. XtraBlue Long Lasting 3 inch Tablets are stabilized, to ensure long lasting sanitization, reducing your need to add more chlorine than necessary. Test and maintain a stabilizer level of at least 30 parts-per-million all summer.

Preventing Algae

Brushing: Brush pool surfaces weekly to remove any algae that may cling to them. Always brush areas in your pool that may have little to no circulation, such as corners or stairs. Use a nylon bristled algae brush for vinyl or fiberglass pools, and use a metal brush for concrete and plaster pools. Circulation: Keeping your water in motion helps prevent algae and bacteria from clinging to surfaces. It also disperses chemicals throughout the pool for maximum coverage. It is best to circulate pool water during the daytime for at least 8-12 hours. Always circulate water when applying chemicals. Pointing the jets down towards the bottom of the pool at all times helps maximize circulation.	Chlorine will control green algae growth in most situations. If you maintain free chlorine levels between 1 to 4 ppm by using a sanitizer, like weekly-use chlorine tablets, and shock weekly to remove contaminants that increase chlorine demand, you will decrease your chances of algae growing in your pool.	While sanitizing and shocking water with Clorox Pool&Spa products can help keep algae at bay, this may not be enough to keep your pool free of visible algae, as some types of algae are chlorine-resistant. Always be a step ahead of algae before it has a chance to grow by adding a preventative algaecide weekly. This step is especially crucial if your pool is prone to algae or when the temperature increases during the peak of summer.
